Senior Independent Non-Executive Director. Sir Ian was a Non-Executive Director of SmithKline Beecham plc from 1st August 1999 until the completion of the merger with Glaxo Wellcome plc in December 2000. He was Chairman of Six Continents PLC and the World Travel and Tourism Council, and is Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of BP plc, Chairman of the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI), and is a Non-Executive Director of Sara Lee Corporation. He is a member of the CBI President's committee.
